It has though been measured that the continents do move a couple of centimeters each year and so far they have been moving in constant unchanging directions thus giving good hint that this part of proof toward the theory is true. It had been known for some time that earthquakes and volcanoes that exist in a line were connected, with the exception of places such as Hawaii and other small islands. This puzzled scientists until the tectonic plate theory was introduced. The theory supposes that destructive plate boundaries and hot spots can provide an answer.

Evidence to support the existence of these plates colliding and forming can be made by using satellite images of Earth. Lines can be plotted of volcanic and earthquake activity which seem to indicate the boundaries of the various plates. Along these lines of constructive boundaries, new plate and land is being created. One can assume that one day the small growing volcanic island of Iceland sitting on the Atlantic ridge will one day stretch downwards splitting the Atlantic in two.

There can’t be many little hot spots all in the same area so one surmises that this line was caused by the volcano initially breaking the surface and as the plate moves it creates another volcano. This process carries on until it forms a ridge of volcanoes creating the islands of Hawaii. Through looking at the at the past we could predict the future and this would indicate that as the plates carry on moving in their current pattern, the continents will in the future all Join up again to form a new super continent Just like Pangaea, 200 million years ago.
